Learn to Earn
The COPT Good News centres have been set up in areas that are disadvantaged. COPT volunteers are often asked for food or money. The Learn to Earn project developed from this frequent request. COPT has a cupboard set up a cupboards at the centres stocked with food and toiletries. The children in the area register to be part of the programme. Once the children have registered they receive a point form. The children can earn points by doing various tasks, attending certain functions, completing computer and first aid courses,
improving on their term marks, collecting recycled material, help keep the centre grounds tidy and reading books from the library. Once they have earned points they can use the points to shop for essential items from the cupboard. This gives the children a motivation and an opportunity to assist their families. COPT is hoping that the children will also realise that a good education will help them in their future and something no one can ever take away from them.
